Hexa Osprey Review

18:51:00

Forged by what the watch community think is ideal, this watch is meant to hit the spot in all the aspects of our dreamy timepiece. This completely matte finished diver has lots of expections to meet since it is a HEXA X WUS 74 project. But the question is if it lives up to its expectations.

First impressions right off the bat was that it wasn't weighing down the wrist as much as most 300m divers do. It's heavy. However, the way the case was designed felt like it even out the weight quite well.

Other than the weight, the watch looks really cool. From the brilliant sun ray dial to the matte black bezel flushed with ceramic insert. The date at the 6 O'clock looks sharp and i prefer over the mainstream diver watches with the date at 3 O'clock. Most watches have their lume marker replaced by the date. However, the Hexa has the date on top of the 6 O'clock lume marker. I could tell that they are dead serious about delivering quality.

The bracelet is made of 316L surgical steel. Feels alot more heavy and alot more sturdy as compared to my other Seiko watches.(First time I've worn a watch made of 316L Steel) The best part is the fact that the bracelet is not tapered even the slightest bit. They choose to not cut cost by tapering the bracelet. Instead, they choose to deliver quality.

The clasp has a diver's extension which is easy to release and not easy to accidentally release. Great design and really worth mentioning with the Hexa logo imprinted on the solid 316L steel clasp.

Besides looking all fancy, how does Hexa Osprey hold up during daily wear?

First off, i was really disappointed with the clicking of the bezel. The rotation was far from fluid and it felt as if there were almost no ball bearings inside.

The lume was also another big disappointment. I have to say that fan of blue lume as i am of the green one. However, under the same intensity of light, it requires twice as much time as compared to any of my seiko watches in order for the lume to start glowing.

The miyota 9015 movement used in the time piece is equivalent to an ET2824, Entry level luxury movement which some label as a workhorse. After wearing it for about 2 weeks, it gained about 1 minute so i would say that its pretty decent. Like the Seiko 6R15 movement, the miyota 9016 offers hand winding too which is always nice and handy.

Taking a look at the case back, you will find a customised rotor which explains why they used a clear case back. Fancy but not a deciding factor.

The only thing i didnt really like about the movement was that the rotor seemed to make noticeable noises during automatic winding. The noise is much more prominent when placed closer to the ear.

Overall, The Hexa Osprey is an excellent watch. However,i feel that its not a must have and doesn't need to be in your collection if you don't find yourself having that extra cash on hand to own it. Although i must say it's worth your buy with regards to the quality of the materials went into building this watch. I hope you enjoyed the review and share with me your thoughts on the Hexa Osprey if you own one!
